While it may seem that sleeping in this position will stretch your body and straighten your back, stomach sleeping actually has a completely opposite effect that you will feel in the morning after getting up from bed.
In this position it is very difficult to maintain a relaxed and natural position of the spine. Also, it increases the pressure on the groins and on other abdomen muscles, legs and arms, and in this way the nervous system is irritated which can lead to muscle tension and pain
It is similar with the position where the head is placed on the side so the tendons become tighten; it causes suppressed nerves, which leads to pain in the neck and unexpected headaches.
Although this sleeping position is quite common among people, try to make small but significant changes when you sleep. In the fetal position the spine is shaped like the letter C, which is not a normal position.
Also in this position your knees are affected too if they are bent for a long time in same position, the blood circulation is worsen and pain is caused as well.
This way of sleeping makes a pressure on the diaphragm and thus obstructs the breathing. The pressure on the chest can cause dull pain. This position is only good for pregnant women because it reduces the pressure on the stomach and regulates breathing.
