Whole food smoothies can be a great way to get in a good dose of vitamins, healthy carbohydrate, and energy. They’re great for satisfying a sweet tooth and depending on how you use them, they can be used for either weight loss or weight gain.
Smoothies are one of my go-to choices when I’m in a hurry but want to make sure that I don’t skip a meal or snack. I usually eat a handful of almonds along with my smoothies in order to help slow down digestion a bit and feel more full, longer. Smoothies can be an easy pick when you’re running out the door on your way to work, but I find that I am more satisfied (visually and mentally) by eating it out of a glass or bowl with a spoon. If you have trouble with snacking or overeating, a simple change like this – forcing yourself to slow down and properly eat and register that you have done so – can go a long ways in helping control cravings.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- A blender
- Fresh fruit of your choice
- Any kind of milk (diary, almond, soy, hemp, rice, etc)
Use a small amount of the milk of your choice to cover the blades of your blender. Add your banana and blend until smooth. Next, toss in your frozen fruit, along with any other flavors or spices you might like to add, and blend again. Just like that, you’ve made yourself a whole foods smoothie that has all clean, all delicious ingredients.
– 1/4 to 1/3 Cup Almond milk
– 1 Banana
– 1 to 1 1/2 cups Frozen berries (I used blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries)
