You know that friend who can seemingly eat whatever she wants without ever gaining a pound? While the rest of us tend to credit her genetics (and curse our own), research shows that naturally thin people also have a particular set of habits that keeps them thin. They also notably don’t participate in many habits that are often daily routines for those of us who have a difficult time keeping weight off. Here are the top three habits naturally thin people avoid and that you should drop from your day, too:
1. Deprive themselves of favorite foods.
While it makes sense that, if you want to lose weight, ice cream shouldn’t be a daily indulgence, naturally thin people know that a single treat every now and then has no real impact on health or body weight. This is true no matter what you weigh.
2. Use food for comfort.
While naturally thin people often enjoy food as much as the rest of us, they are far less likely to use food for emotional comfort. Instead they find healthier ways to deal with their emotions, like talking about their feelings with friends and family, meditating, exercising, and participating in hobbies that provide introspection, pleasure, or stress relief.
Naturally thin people tend to have an innate ability to listen to their bodies (maybe because they aren’t constantly fighting with their physical selves about how they look or how hungry they are). For this reason, they are more able to stop eating when they are full, regardless of whether or not food remains on their plate.
