If You Stop Smoking, Even In the 60th, You’ll Do a Miracle For Your Health!
For a better health is good to stop smoking even in old age, according to a survey of German scientists.
Experts have found that people in their 60’s and older, who finally broke up with this bad habit, significantly reduced the risk of heart disease and stroke.
Scientists from Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg analyzed the data from 503 905 people aged 60 and over, of whom 37,952 died from cardiovascular disease.
Smokers were dying of the disease, on average, five years earlier than people who never smoked. Ex-smokers, on average, died 2.16 years earlier, the study found.
Smokers are exposed to twice the risk of death from cardiovascular disease compared to non-smokers, and the risk is reduced for those who smoked less or at some point stopped smoking, according to a study published in a scientific journal British Medical Journal.
It is never too late to quit smoking, said lead author Hermann Brenner. “The benefits to health are significant even in people of advanced age,” said Brenner, adding that the benefits are greater if they stop smoking before.
